I spend a lot of time in Helsinki, and know a lot of Finnish musicians, and there is something amazing up there that makes people make crazy crazy music. I think it is to do with the winters. It is so dark for months on end that lots of kids seem to hole themselves up in the dark for months making music. And it seems to be a culture where art is still seen as cool. And it is sufficiently small place that everyone seems to know everyone else, which makes ‘scenes’ bubble up in a very cohesive way. They also drink a lot.

I first came across Le Corps Mince de Francoise a couple of months ago when I was sent their debut EP by my old friend and occasional label mate Jonas Verwijnen AKA Finnish breaks producer LBJ. Though he has now moved from Helsinki to Berlin, he had been asked to produce the album of Le Corps Mince de Francoise, and damn fine job of it he has done to.

Le corps mince de francois

Le Corps Mince de Francoise see to have 2 things working against them. Firstly a tendency for people to compare them too quickly to CSS, and secondly the fact that no-one but no-one can remember their act name.

Everything beyond that is positive. They have hot kooky arty girls. They shout funny and clever lyrics over cool fresh sounding electronica, laced with punky song 2 guitars. The dress well, make their own videos, perform live. If there is any justice in the world they will become superstars. “Everything I say will make me sound like a fool”. Indeed.

They mostly sound like THIS

They deserve great Kudos for their homemade videos too:
