This is a remix I did of Seven Nation Army in 2005 I think. It seems to have started bubbling up on a number of cool blogs over the past few weeks, usually in a pretty lofi form, and since it is next to impossible to buy, I thought I would post a better quality version here.
People are seeming to think it is a remix of the White Stripes original, but actually it is a remix of a cover version done by Openair, for release on Skint records. The record seemed to disappear into development hell, and to the best of my knowledge never really got released properly despite being quite popular.
For reasons best known to me at the time I decided to make the track into some kind of disco meets basement jaxx party number, and I recorded a whole disco track on bass, guitar, 70s synths, drums and live brass, in my bedroom, mixed it down, then sampled it and cut it up to make this mix. That was really at the tail end of the “Room 5 Make Luv” era disco house and was probably kind of going out of fashion. in 2009 however, with disco making a big resergence in London, the track seems to have a bit of relevence again, though I wouldn’t make it sound exactly like this if I were making it today.
Anyway, its something of a lost classic, that people seem to like, so have a listen.

When we got to the studio this morning, Wez said some rather excellent street art had sprung up round the corner since midnight. Check out “Rose Closed”.
New video for the Pet Shop Boys by OUR illustrator and video maker Han Hoogerbrugge. Excellent work, but just for the record, we were there several years before.
What with Neil Tennant wearing a Bowler Hat to the Brits, its starting to feel like they are stalking me!

Vielen Dank an das 3001, Düsseldorf und alle die dort waren.
We’re back again, this time joining forces with one of our favorite producers of the past year, Riva Starr for a fantastically energetic track. “Juice and Gin” is a blend of electro-acid and fidget with monstrous ragga vocals from Yolanda. This is a pretty good quality mp3, but a full quality version, a dub and an alternate mix will be available on Beatport in a couple of weeks.

It’s about a year ago now that I went to a very very rainy New York city to work with one of the most individual and talented rappers around, MC Paul Barman, to collaborate on a track for the second Young Punx album. At the time the recording session was not particularly an easy one – in retrospect I feel that I was accidentally doing more to put Paul off than to put him at his ease, which was an error on my part. I largely put this down to the challenges of getting rushed into an alien environment, not having time to really get to know everyone involved and how they like to work, then having the pressure of having to create, in the morning, at cost to me, against a ticking clock! It doesn’t make for a relaxed creative environment.
That said Paul is master of words and through a combination of prepared notes scribbled on napkins, and inventive freestyles he gave me plenty of gems to take home with me.
At the time I was really faced with the problem that great though his vocals were I wasn’t really sure how to place them within the album in a way that made them feel like they belonged in the same body of work. However, a year later as the album is nearing completion I feel that the problem is really solving itself. Read more
