Mofo Hifi label buddy and fellow fan of all things filthy and electronic, Sharooz, ain’t one to stay still for very long.  Evident in this, the latest from his vaults, somewhere mid-London via Miami.

As the debut for his new label, La Bombe, Sharroz has demonstrated how firmly his ear is stuck to the (dance)floor.  Getting much-hyped Miami wunderkind, SonicC, to give his forthcoming cut, ‘Saccharin‘, a damn good roughing-up is a touch.  And one that hasn’t gone unnoticed in blogspehere.  With the likes of Discodust, GottaDanceDirty, and Louis Louis all chomping at the bit to post the remix ahead of the game, this ‘high-rising’ sonic punch in the face gives La Bombe it’s first point on the score-card.

When we ain’t busting it hard with a fat bassline, we like things a bit deeper here at TYP HQ.  Surfacing towards the end of last year and already boasting an array of taste-maker DJ/blog support, dadahack is a new cross-country production duo made up from 1-part James Banbury (based in UK) and 1-part Pete Davis (based in Sweden).  The first material they have teased out under their dadahack moniker is a 5-track EP called ‘Hellos’; a heady mix of house, nu-disco, electro and sleaze.

The lead track ‘Hello Dust’ features vocals from Hannah Robinson, but for me it’s all about the sensational 11-minute gritty electro workout from Freelance Hellraiser that never ceases to tires my ears.

The ‘Hellos’ EP drops ahead of a clutch of forthcoming remixes and new tracks from the duo, paving the way for a dadahack album due for release in the next coming months.  The full ‘Hellos’ EP bundled with alternative remixes by håkan lidbo and Tranquility Bass can be purchased in high quality via the dadahack homepage.

And now for something new from a man that need no introduction.. oh, except to say that his eponymous debut album is due for release in September and this is the lead.. Ladies and Gentlemen, i give you the MIGHTY Phonat!

Phonat CD Album Packshot

Words by: Aleks from Discodust

‘Set Me Free’ is a brilliant fusion of the loveliest elements in both french house and the more melodic variations of current big room sound, combining huge riffs reminiscent of pryda or (gasp) deadmau5 with the edgey disco roots of daft punk and the soulful warmth of a fred falke production, in short: phonat delivers this season’s perfect peaktime anthem. check out the official video and the extended mix right here.

In order to reach out to an even greater audience, ‘Set Me Free’ has been remixed by Avicii, the latest ‘made man’ in the orbit of the Swedish House Mafia, mosh-pit dubstep terrorist High Rankin and the UKs hardest working french revolutionist and personal friend/peer of Phonat, Louis la Roche.  The single with remixes just dropped on beatport today but you can preview all tunes in 192 kbps right here.

ymikm-singleI first came across Don Diablo some time around 2004 – 2005 when we collaborated on the production of a fairly commercial track, that went out under a different name. Back then he was something of a mystery in that he had achieved some kind of superstar status in his native Holland, whilst being pretty much unknown just a couple of hundred miles away in the UK. The situation was pretty much the same in 2007 when we commissioned this remix of Your Music Is Killing Me from him. We thought he was a great artist, who we had mutual respect with, who seemed to operate in the same musical world as us – we both had our feet firmly in the world of European club / house music, yet found that niche rather too cliquey and restrictive. We both wanted to add more to the mix : Rock, rap, pop – MUSIC goddammit! Yet if you mentioned him to most UK clubbers they would still have no idea who he was, despite being on the cover of glossy magazines at home.

Don Diablo and a furry friend.

Don Diablo and a furry friend.

The past 12 months has seen all that turn around. With numerous plays on the likes of Pete Tong, CD cover mounts in the UK, and a worldwide blog mp3 hypemachine drive for glory, he is now one of the most blogged and well known electronic artists around.

And last week we noticed a new phenomenon of people blogging his mix of us. Simply put, if other people are blogging our track, then we may as well too! So, from 2007, but still sounding pretty fresh now, here’s The Young Punx with “Your music is killing me” as remixed by Don Diablo!

A nice little breaksy public enemy mashup doing the rounds this week. I’m not sure on its background but apparently Zane Lowe played it. There was that big Bring the noise bootleg by Benny Benassi earlier this year, and a few good remixes of it then, but the sparse bassline garage/breaks approach here leaves more room for the rap to breath, which is a good thing.

A new mash-up for you. I thought these would sit nicely together the moment I first heard “Ghosts N Stuff” ringing through from Phonat’s room next door! I had to re-record the strings and brass for Lola’s Theme myself with live players to clarify the harmony enough to make it gel, but hey, I do these kinds of things for you and you don’t get that kind of dedication from anyone else! ;-)

Me and Phonat did this remix for Gut Records well over a year ago now. We played it on our podcast and hence have quite a lot of enquiries about where you can buy it. The answer is… absolutely no-where… since Gut have now gone bankrupt, along with large number of other record labels.

I bumped into the Tastemakers at the (rather over packed and hellish) DJ magazine Top 100 DJs party at Ministry of Sound last week and basically it seems likely the track can never be released unless they buy it back from the administrators, which is unlikely to happen.

So we decided to just give it to you.

Its a little dated now… music has moved on a bit, but it still has plenty of merits, and I get regular requests for it.

Deltawave are a synth pop act hailing from the North of England (York) with both male and female vocals. As such they instantly remind you of great acts from the heyday of 80s synths, like Human League, New Order and the Thompson Twins. With their moody delivery and great ear for a catchy hook they really give me a great 80s flashback – in a good way, and they are great live too if you can catch them (they played supporting Shed 7 recently).

This is the title track from their “Strychnine and Soda EP” which is 2 years old today (and can be found on iTunes, Beatport etc). We’ve been waiting ever since for their debut album to be completed, and I certainly hope it will be finished soon, given that I heard a demo version that sounded damn finished to me about 3 years ago! Ho hum. These things can take a while to mature! Anyway. I REALLY love this track and I hope you will too.
