In blog world we’re a bit late on this one but none the less it’s still good for glory.  New from UK producer duo, SuperMal – whose tracks and remixes are regularly supported by the likes of Grum, Fear of Tigers and Russ Chimes – is this super-synth Frenchfest remix of Dada ft. The Other ‘Majestic’.  Frenchmen take cover, this one’s incoming straight from across the channel and it’s gonna blow!

We of course first came across the pair when they asked to collaborate with Phonat on the now widely favoured ‘Pixelated‘.

‘Set Me Free’ is a brilliant fusion of the loveliest elements in both french house and the more melodic variations of current big room sound, combining huge riffs reminiscent of pryda or (gasp) deadmau5 with the edgey disco roots of daft punk and the soulful warmth of a fred falke production, in short: phonat delivers this season’s perfect peaktime anthem. check out the official video and the extended mix right here.

In order to reach out to an even greater audience, ‘Set Me Free’ has been remixed by Avicii, the latest ‘made man’ in the orbit of the Swedish House Mafia, mosh-pit dubstep terrorist High Rankin and the UKs hardest working french revolutionist and personal friend/peer of Phonat, Louis la Roche.  The single with remixes just dropped on beatport today but you can preview all tunes in 192 kbps right here.

Yes it has indeed been a while since i last posted on the blog.  Blame the workload, blame my laziness, blame my inability to write coherent text; whatever you will it is valid.

Well here is my recompense; what I feel I owe to the musings of this musical artefact is an introduction…  A producer, with support from Erol Alkan, a track that has received props on Radio 1 via Kissy Sellout, plus a first for an underground UK recording artist to adopt the application of QR codes in their artwork…

Yes.. GRUM!

You cannot fail to appreciate all 3 mixes of new single, ‘Runaway’, which you can hear, via his new label blog (Heartbeats), currently being touted.  A MUST for all and sundry and a big “if you like this then you ARE gonna love the new Phonat material” plug to ALL readers – especially when considering the Supermal Mix.

Check it out and enjoy x

When we got to the studio this morning, Wez said some rather excellent street art had sprung up round the corner since midnight. Check out “Rose Closed”.

The Young Punx have taken part in the legendary Buffet Libre “Rewind” project, in which 100 artists do cover versions of tracks from the 70s, 80s and 90s for a free online digital download compilation. The Young Punx chose to cover the Belle Stars version of “The Clapping Song” from 1982, which is itself a cover of Shirley Ellis’ 60s original. Featuring vocals from Laura Kidd and virtuoso guitar from Guthrie Govan the track starts out as a fairly faithful cover version, until Phonat takes the helm half way through and it turns into a kind of electro drum and bass freak out version! Hal Ritson of The Young Punx comments,

“What attracted us was the combination of the innocence of the playground rhyme pop style with the sulky thatcher-era vocal delivery. Also it seemed fun to do a cover version of a song that was ALREADY a cover version of a 60′s song. A cover of a cover.”

Me and Phonat did this remix for Gut Records well over a year ago now. We played it on our podcast and hence have quite a lot of enquiries about where you can buy it. The answer is… absolutely no-where… since Gut have now gone bankrupt, along with large number of other record labels.

I bumped into the Tastemakers at the (rather over packed and hellish) DJ magazine Top 100 DJs party at Ministry of Sound last week and basically it seems likely the track can never be released unless they buy it back from the administrators, which is unlikely to happen.

So we decided to just give it to you.

Its a little dated now… music has moved on a bit, but it still has plenty of merits, and I get regular requests for it.
